Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) provides affordable physical activity options for older people in our Council area. These low cost, physical activity programs provide opportunities to increase strength, balance and socialisation.  MLHD currently support volunteers to deliver aqua exercise, tai chi, gentle exercise and dance classes in our community.

Aqua Exercise

  • Aqua exercise is a water-based class. It's a great way to exercise, particularly for older adults because the exercises can be performed without putting extra strain on your joints.

Dance Moves

  • DanceMoves is a 45-minute class where you can listen to your favourite music while working on your strength, coordination, flexibility and balance.

Gentle Exercise or HAPI Movers

  • Get your whole body moving in these classes. You can stand or use a chair to do these exercises. Enjoy whole body benefits of improved strength and balance, improved heart and lung health and greater range of motion in your joints

Thai Chi

  • Tai Chi is a gentle exercise that is proven to improve balance and is easy for any level of fitness. You can stand or you can use a chair to do Tai Chi.

Stepping On Program

  • MLHD also runs the Stepping On Program in the Federation Council area, a seven-week group-based program designed for people who are living at home and have experienced a fall or are concerned about falling. It covers a range of issues, including falls and risk, strength and balance exercises, home hazards, safe footwear, vision and falls, safety in public places and community mobility. The program is delivered in weekly two-hour sessions for seven weeks.
