Young people will POPP when they see the new Public Outdoor Ping Pong table at Lowe Square in Howlong.

The POPP outdoor ping pong table is a permanent, fully wielded steel weather-proof table has been provided by Federation Youth Council and funded through the Youth Opportunities Program 2018.

Federation Youth Council Mayor Dylan Forge who was on the sub- committee for the ping pong table said the Youth Councillors were excited to see it be craned in this week.

“The ping pong table is a great way to have fun and be active in a shared public space,” Dylan said.

“Ping-pong is probably the only sport where you can be an absolute novice, pick up a bat, and away you go. The Youth Council is all about encouraging young people to come together have fun and be active and our latest project is a fine example of providing an opportunity to do that.”

The idea of the outdoor ping pong table was inspired by the Youth Council’s concern with inclusion and acceptance of young people and provided a new pop up space for opportunity for social recreation that is outdoors and free.

The Youth Council have bigger plans for the ping pong table and plan to engage with young people from Howlong to determine what sort or mural the table should be painted with.

Mayor Patrick Bourke said this wonderful initiative of the Federation Youth Council adds another opportunity for people to enjoy our wonderful parks and outdoor areas.

The Ping Pong Table forms part of the Play Space Project of Federation Council in Howlong that includes the skate park and playground at Lowe Square and the playground and enchanted hut at Memorial Park.

The Federation Youth Council will be calling for new members in April and anybody interested should contact Council on (02) 6033 8974.
