Model Code of Meeting Practice

The Model Code of Meeting Practice provides a minimum standard for NSW Councils in relation to conducting public meetings and is made under section 360 of the Local Government Act 1993 (the Act) and the Local Government (General) Regulation 2005 (the Regulation).

This code applies to all meetings of councils and committees of councils of which all the members are councillors (committees of council).

It is a mandatory requirement that Councils adopt a Code of Meeting Practice within one year of the new council becoming elected.

The Draft Model Code of Meeting Practice was endorsed by Council on Tuesday 15 May 2018 and will be on public exhibition for 28 days (30 May until 28 June) to enable the community to review and submit feedback.  Feedback must be received within 42 days (no later than 12 July) to be considered for adoption at a meeting of Council on or before 21 August 2018.
