Learner Drivers & Supervisors

Young drivers constitute 15% of all licence holders while being almost 25% of annual road fatalities. (Transport for NSW 2022)

There are special rules that apply to learner drivers, some of which are noted below. These rules are designed to keep you safe while you're building your driving skills.

Licence Conditions 

Special conditions apply for learner driver, these include; speed restrictions, vehicle types, passenger numbers and mobile phone use. The conditions that apply to learner drivers or provisional drivers do not change when they travel outside of NSW. Wearing contact lenses or glasses may also be a licence condition.

From Monday 20 November 2017 important changes were made to the Graduated Licensing Scheme (GLS) to improve the safety of young drivers on our roads. To find out more about the changes, visit the Centre for Road Safety website

The Safer Drivers Course 

The Safer Drivers Course is a combined theoretical and practical course for learner drivers under 25 years old who have completed 50 log book hours. The nearest Safer Drivers Course location is at PCYC Albury.

Helping Learner Drivers Become Safer Drivers 

Federation Council conducts workshops for supervisors of learner drivers that aim to increase knowledge and confidence. Register your interest by completing the form below.

Topics covered during the 'Helping Learner Drivers Become Safer Drivers' workshop include:

  • What is involved with being a supervising driver.
  • Issues facing young drivers.
  • How the NSW graduated licensing scheme works.
  • The importance of learner driver experience.
  • Lesson planning and dealing with stress, and
  • Tips for safe solo driving.
