Rutherglen & Corowa Unlocked

The rich history and beautiful architecture of the Rutherglen Corowa region will be on display in August, with an exciting new event being launched by Federation Council and Destination Rutherglen.

Rutherglen & Corowa Unlocked will showcase a number of properties across the region on 25 & 26 August and is inspired by Melbourne’s prestigious Open House event.

The event is expected to attract visitation to the region during what is normally a quiet time, by providing an opportunity for those interested in history, design and architecture to explore buildings of significance. The event program, due to be launched in mid July, will also include guided tours, guest speakers and workshops.

Chairman of Destination Rutherglen, Greg Duncan said the concept stemmed from the Open House model, seen around Australia including regional cities.

“We felt there was a real opportunity for something similar to work in this region and approached Federation Council about coming on board,” he said.

Federation Council has also welcomed the partnership between Council and Destination Rutherglen.

“This region has so much to offer and we are pleased to be working with Destination Rutherglen to draw people here,” said Mayor Pat Bourke.

“We are very proud of the history and beauty of our towns and this event is a great opportunity to celebrate that.’ said the Mayor.”

Federation Council and Destination Rutherglen have thanked those businesses, organisations and residents who have agreed to open up their properties and make this event possible. Rutherglen & Corowa Unlocked has generated a considerable level of interest and is expected to continue gaining momentum and growing into the future.

The event is also being proudly supported by Regional Design Service, the Federation Museum and the Rutherglen Historical Society.
