The Corowa Men's Shed, with the assistance of the Corowa RSL Club celebrated the grand opening of the Corowa Men's Shed at 44 Queen Street recently.

The event was well attended, by approximately 100 people, bolstered by Men's shed members from Wahgunyah, Yackandandah, Chiltern and Rutherglen.

The Corowa shed opened its doors to all guests at 11.00am and most if not all visitors had the opportunity to walk through the Corowa facility and inspect the wonderful work the Corowa members carry out.

Corowa Men's shed President Lynn Fredericks opened the formalities at 12.00pm by thanking all those in attendance and expressed his tremendous appreciation to all the corporate sponsors and the Federation Council for the wonderful assistance they had provided since the sheds inception 18 months ago.

“Without the help from the Federation Council and other organisations like Lions and Rotary and other very generous business the whole project would not have got off the ground,” he said.

A big vote of thanks was also extended to the Corowa RSL Club's General Manager Peter Norris and his staff for offering to provide the BBQ lunch plus cakes and slices at no cost.

Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke officially spoke at the opening where he congratulated the Men’s Shed Community for the “terrific work and mateship” that has gone in to creating the new unique facility.

“The Corowa Men’s Shed was a recipient of the Stronger Community Grants Program and were awarded $22,719,75 to go towards this great facility which we stand in front of today,” he said.

“On behalf of Federation Council, I would like to congratulate the Corowa Men’s Shed on completing this project, with the support of the Stronger Communities Fund Grants Program and I look forward to witnessing the local community enjoy the Men’s Shed for many years to come.”

At the heart of the NSW Government’s decision to create new councils was a commitment to creating stronger communities with local residents. The Stronger Communities Fund was established as part of this commitment and aims to support residents, community groups and new councils to work together on projects that improve infrastructure and services.

The purpose of the funds is to build more vibrant, sustainable and inclusive local communities.
