Corowa puts on a show for the 2018 Australian Billy Cart Championships

Fantastic weather greeted competitors and spectators for the Corowa Australian Billy Cart Championships on Easter Saturday. Competitors travelled from Queensland, Victoria and NSW to race this Australian iconic event.

Advance Australia Fair played over the PA, as a mini tank opened the race and over 5000 people lined Sanger Street eagerly waiting to see who would be crowned the 2018 Australian Billy Cart Champion.

Others enjoyed the warm weather by strolling through the Corowa Rotary Federation Markets, enjoying the children’s entertainment, viewing the vintage cars or relishing the hospitality of the Sanger Street businesses.

The Australian Billy Cart Champions for 2018 are:

9 Years and Under

1st: Koby Jones.

2nd: Mitchell Minihan.

3rd: Jacob Wison.

10-13 Years                       

1st: Danae Davey Milne.

2nd: Brock Mihan.

3rd: Bryon Bevan.

14-17 Years                       

1st: Zavier Bell.

2nd: Harry Storer.

3rd: Hunter Gray Ruggi.

60 Plus                 

1st: Alan Treloar.  

2nd: Graeme Smith.

3rd: Russell Harrison.

Open Class

1st: Dean Coles.

2nd: Alan Treloar.

3rd: Troy Davey Milne.

All Schools Team Challenge Winners:

1st: St. Patrick Parish School Albury (Driver Koby Jones).

2nd: Hazel Glen Collage Doreen (Diver Mitchell Minihan).

3rd: St. Mary’s Primary School Corowa (Driver Marcus Maclean).

 

Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke congratulated the 2018 Australian Billy Cart Champions and praised the sportsmanship displayed by all competitors who raced.

“Thank you to the local businesses that supported this year’s event including:

Andrew Goldman Excavations, Edge FM & 3NE Radio stations, Federation Council, Win Television, Corowa RSL Club, Corowa SupaIGA, Greenacres Motel, Maverick Boats, Corowa Business Chamber, Pigdon’s Holden, Hume Bank, and Target Country- Corowa,” Mayor Bourke said.

“A big thank you must also be extended to the Corowa and District Historical Machinery Club, Corowa Events, Corowa VRA, Peter Hanrahan from Coreen, Rotary Club of Corowa and Wahgunyah Speedway.

“Thank you also to all the local groups and businesses who added to the day including Amaranth Foundation, Corowa Anglican Church, Corowa Rutherglen Junior Football Club, Corowa & District Car Club, Dingaling Face Painting, Hay Ho Jumping Castles, Photographer Simon Ginns, Royal Hotel Corowa and St Johns (NSW) Event Health Services.”

Mayor Bourke also acknowledge the volunteers behind the Australian Billy Cart Championships and said the event would not operate without the generous and hardworking efforts of local volunteers.
