Federation Council regrets to inform the public that a very difficult decision has been made to postpone this year’s annual Corowa Australian Billy Carts Championships, scheduled to be held during the Easter long weekend.

Taking into consideration public health advice and the ongoing risks associated with COVID-19, Council made the decision at its monthly meeting of Council on Tuesday 16 February.

Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke said the decision to postpone was not taken lightly, however he urged that the health of Council staff, volunteers, competitors and crew, community members and visitors remains paramount.

“Council has to ensure we play our part in doing all we can to minimise the risks COVID-19 continues to present to our communities,” he said.

“As per the advice it would be irresponsible to continue with the event at this time. We extend our sincere thoughts to all those who will be impacted by this decision. This comes at a difficult time for many in our community and especially our retail sector, as economic conditions continue to be challenging across our wider region.”

Council staff are actively pursuing other opportunities to host a smaller series of community and tourism related events over the course of the year when it is safe to do so.
