Now is the time to dust off your old homemade contraptions or build a newly designed cart and enter the McDonald's Australian Billy Cart Championships.
Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke said the town of Corowa is set to come alive this Easter long weekend as it becomes the centre of racing action, festival celebrations and family entertainment.
“The McDonald's Australian Billy Cart Championships is an all ages event with six different race categories to give every competitor a fighting chance,” he said.
“Competitors race down Corowa's main street in their home-made or professionally created designs. Council is encouraging all racing enthusiasts far and wide to become part of the action and register to participate today.”
Categories for this year’s event include:
• Juniors - 9 years and under.
• 10 – 13 Years.
• 14 – 17 Years.
• Open Class.
• 60 +
• All Schools Team Challenge.
The All Schools Team Challenge is a popular category that always draws a crowd and local schools and community groups in the Council area are being encouraged to consider entering a cart.
Perpetual trophies and cash prizes are up for grabs, as well as the thrill of being named the Australian Billy Cart Champion!
Racing action will commence at 10.30am and plenty of family fun will be available for spectators including jumping castles, children’s face painting, market stalls and much more.
The McDonald's Australian Billy Cart Championships would not be possible without the support of local businesses and volunteers. Anyone who would like more information on sponsoring the event or volunteering on the day is asked to contact Council’s Tourism Coordinator on P: (02) 6033 8999.
Entries are now open for this iconic event. Competitors must adhere to the conditions of entry.
Hire carts are available through the Corowa Visitor Information Centre.
