WaterNSW has issued a blue-green algae (BGA) alert for Yarrawonga Weir at Lake Mulwala.

Residents and visitors are advised to avoid direct contact with water in Yarrawonga Weir/Lake Mulwala after high levels of blue-green algae have been detected.

Warning signs are being positioned at key recreational areas and will remain in place while high levels of blue-green algae are present.

It is recommended that alternative supplies for stock drinking water be used. Stock and pets should be kept away from the water.

Federation Council Water Treatment plants in Corowa, Howlong and Mulwala are treating water in accordance with Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and water remains safe for drinking, cooking and bathing.

All unaffected waterways are safe for recreational use including swimming, water skiing and fishing.
