Background

Under the NSW State Government’s Flood Prone Land Policy, the management of flood liable land is the responsibility of local government.  The Policy is based around five sequential stages:

Stage 1 - Data Collection – compilation of existing and collected flood data.

Stage 2 – Flood Study – defines the nature and extent of the flood problem.

Stage 3 – Floodplain Risk Management Study – determines and evaluates options for the management of flood risk.

Stage 4 - Floodplain Risk Management Plan – documents the preferred management options. (We are here).

Stage 5 – Implementation of the Plan – encompasses design and construction of any adopted flood management works and the application of the adopted planning policies and controls to ensure new development is compatible with the flood risk.

The document on Public Exhibition represents the third and fourth stages of the above process.  It follows the previous completion of Stages 1 and 2 in 2017.

The townships which are the subject of the Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan are the township / villages of Boree Creek, Morundah, Oaklands, Rand and Urana.

The public exhibition report document is structured as follows:

  • Main report – this includes an overview of flood management issues, impacts and management options in each town.  The preferred options are documented in Section 8 of the main report (Draft Floodplain Risk Management Plan).
  • Appendix A (Boree Creek), Appendix B (Morundah), Appendix C (Oaklands), Appendix D (Rand) and Appendix E (Urana) provide a more detailed description of the investigations undertaken within each town, including all of the assessed management options.
