Start Your Business Here

Starting a new business is an exciting and challenging event. Turning a great idea into reality is a lot of work; finding the finance, the right premises, sourcing equipment, stock and suppliers. Making the decisions and deals that will make it happen.

One of the most important activities that new small business people must tackle is determining what laws, regulations and licences must be complied with or obtained for their new business.

Start Your Business Here is an initiative of your local council, funded by the AusIndustry that aims to assist you to identify the rules and regulations that you may need to comply with to run your business in the our Local Government Area.

Start Your Business Here uses a set of simple questions to determine what rules and regulations are likely to apply to your business. Not only does it provide you with a printed list of the rules and regulations, wherever possible the program links you to a copy of the regulation or licence application.

You don't have to answer all the questions in one sitting, you can return to the program at any time in a one-month period and it will recommence where you left off.

Most rules and regulations fall to Council to enforce. Many of them have been introduced by State Government and therefore will apply to every Local Government Area in NSW. Some however, have been introduced by Council and therefore only apply to this Local Government Area. If you are investigating multiple locations in which to establish your new business then you should not assume that the information you obtain here will be the same for another location within NSW.

While the information provided is comprehensive it may not identify every issue that affects your new business because no two businesses are exactly the same. Council encourages you to contact us to obtain further information about starting and running your new business in our Local Government Area.
