New Portable Speed Board

A new solar powered portable speed board has commenced operation in the Federation Council area.

The board will provide real-time feedback to motorists of their vehicle speed and a reminder of the appropriate speed for the road they are travelling on.

Phase one of the operation will see the board located in four towns across the Council area, being Corowa, Howlong, Mulwala and Urana. It will spend 2-4 weeks at each site before rotating to the next location.

The locations are:

  • Corowa – Redlands Road (x 2), Honour Avenue and Dawe Street.
  • Corowa South – Hume Street.
  • Howlong – Kennedy Street, Victoria Street and Riverina Highway.
  • Mulwala – Corowa Road.
  • Urana – William Street.

Phase two which is scheduled to commence in 2021, will see further locations added.

The Speed Board located in Oaklands on Milthorpe Street will remain in this location for the time being.

Speed is the biggest contributing factor to injury and fatality crashes on New South Wales roads with 20% of injury and fatality crashes in Federation Council area involving speed.
