Capital Works Program Update - May 2023

Council has an ongoing program of capital works and upgrades to buildings, parks, playgrounds, and roads across the Federation Council Region. The following activities were undertaken in May 2023 by Federation Council’s Works teams.

Balldale Road 8km reconstruction – LRCI Grant

  • Works were postponed over the month of May due to contractors carrying out the watermain installation on Balldale Road. Works will recommence in June.

Maintenance Grading

  • A higher focus of rural roads for upcoming winter rainfall, see tables below of graded roads.

Road Side Rural Slashing

  • SOUTH - Spring Drive, Aerodrome
  • NORTH - Urana Township, Federation Way, Morundah township and surrounds.
  • Moving onto Greenvale Road, Strontian Road, Boree Creek township and surrounds when time permits.

Table drain maintenance

  • Table drain maintenance focused on customer request for the upcoming winter rainfall.

Please Note: Works were carried out only in zones where no impact can be made on the Sloanes Froglet (between April and October breeding season).

Sealed Roads

  • Numerous customer requests for pothole repairs on sealed urban and rural roads have been received and actioned with the Corowa based Flocon patching truck and the Urana based Jet Master patching truck.
  • Work is continuous on all roads such as: Federation Way, Jerilderie Road, Boree Creek Road, Urana/Boree/Morundah/Oakland and Rand townships and rural roads.
  • The impacts of the flooding are still a significant issue that the operations staff are working hard to get on top of.

Maintenance Crew/Sundry

  • Crew Culvert installations/Repairs
  • Patching with cold mix
  • Guild Post
  • General maintenance in townships and caravan park
  • Working on both construction jobs when needed
  • Flood Damage repairs
  • Fulfilling customer requests
  • Floating plant throughout the shire
  • Operating loader in pits and stock piles

Heavy Trucks

  • Carting waste/gravel for earthworks, culvert replacement on Cullivel Road
  • Gravel carting Cocketgedong Road
  • Gravel carting gravel re-sheet
  • Gravel carting Cullivel Road

TfNSW / RMCC

  • Completion of remedial works for the resealing program of numerous segments.

Quarries

  • Planning is well under way for the blasting of 100,000 tons of blast and crushing at the Balldale and Daysdale quarries. The gravels will be used for upcoming RRRP and capital works programs.
