Council is very excited that the concept designs for the Enchanted Hut at Memorial Park Howlong are complete with the aim to begin painting in September.

The project involves the creation of a mural depicting an enchanted space on the interior and exterior of the rotunda as part of the new community playground.

Council commissioned artist, Kristina Greenwood of Albury to create an original artwork on the rotunda that considers and blends with the natural environment, yet engages children in imaginative play and makes them feel like they are in an ‘enchanted hut’.

Kristina’s mural will feature on the exterior the illusion of a shelter made up of old woven whimsical trees, green foliage and flowers with fairies wings peeking out from the centre. As children enter the hut they will be taken into a fantastical world of magical creatures including mystical fairies and goblins, slimy surprises such as snails and slugs, and enchanted mushrooms that to insight their imagination.

Council hopes to expand on the project by partnering with community groups to construct furniture for within the hut. Landscaping around the rotunda will add a further dimension to the space and provide additional opportunities for nature play.

Federation Council was successful in securing $5,000 through the NSW Government Stronger Communities Program to cover the artist cost of the project.
