Council has an ongoing program of capital works and upgrades to buildings, parks, playgrounds and roads across the Federation Council Region. The following activities were undertaken during August 2025 by Federation Council’s Operations Works teams.
Table Drain Maintenance
Works have concentrated on the Romney Street,Mulwala and the Corowa area generally.Clearing table drains on rural roads and customer requests as received.
Sealed Roads
Numerous customer requests for pothole repairs on sealed urban and rural roads have been received(after recent rainfall)with manyactioned with the Corowa based Flo-Con patching truck and the Urana based Jet Master patching truck.In the North, the focus was predominately on Federation Way.
Slashing – Sealed Roads Shoulders
Slashing was conducted on Back Berrigan Road and near Urana. Southern area to commence soon.
Savernake Road -Shoulder Re-Sheeting
Work involved cutting out the existing shoulders, and reusing and compacting the existing insitu material improving drainage where possible.The aim of the works is to enhance road safety, accessibility, and the long-term sustainability of the road network.
Quarries
Carting gravel from the screen pit at Urana to resheet DoctorsRoad.
Davies Hill – Carting gravel for shoulder re-sheeting.
Maintenance Crew/Sundry Crew
- Culvert cleaning/Repairs.
- Footpath maintenance/repairs.
- Sign replacements/repairs.
- Various guide post replacements with over 300 placed in the Northern area alone.
- Installed 50 new floodway signs in the North in various locations.
- Working with construction crews when required.
- Attending to customer requests.
Sapling Removal Program from Rural Drains
This program has been completed and will cease till the weather improves.
Heavy Trucks
- Carting gravel to Doctors Road re-sheeting project.
- Carting gravel for patching work on Angle Ranch Road and Narrow Plain Road.
- Carting stone for patching trucks, Flocon and Jetmaster.
TfNSW – RMCC
Maintenance works have started in Q2 under the RMCC agreement.
Leading into the next month, works such as signage andguidepost installationswill be undertaken. Recently, drainage maintenance on Tommy McRea Causeway was completed. This included removal of choking vegetation, and cleaning of the retention pond leading into the river.
Corowa Aerodrome
Twice weekly inspections undertaken that ensure compliance with the MOS 139. A recent recommendation from a CASA official was that one of the inspections be conducted at night, and Council has commenced this recommendation.
Council is still waiting to receive its Surveillance Report from CASA that will outline its findings to Council as operator of Corowa Aerodrome, and any works required. We have been notified the report has been delayed due to circumstances on CASA’s end.

- Storm water minor repairs, urban and rural roads
- Footpath repairs and gravel patching in urban unsealed roads
- Table drain maintenance, drainage and culvert works, urban and rural roads

- Service numerous Customer Requests
Landfills
- Howlong: Investigation underway for potential construction of another waste cell.
- Corowa: Business as usual.
- Mulwala: Business as usual.
