Every three months, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) engages the Council to carry out night time maintenance on the Mulwala Bridge. These works include cleaning and other miscellaneous tasks. The maintenance is scheduled at night to minimize the impact on traffic. During this time, pilot vehicle and traffic control measures are in place to ensure a safe working environment.
Corowa Aerodrome
Twice weekly inspections carried out to ensure compliance with the MOS 139. Weed spraying and slashing planned on runway shoulders and to the wind indicators.
Grader Teams Capital/Maintenance Works Program
Please Note: Maintenance Grading in the north is all subject to weather conditions.
Due to the extreme heat and lack of rainfall in the north, water levels have dropped significantly at the creek where we typically draw water. As a result, team leaders have planned for the two graders to work out of Morundah for the month of January.
Grader training was completed on February 23rd, 24th, and 25th. This program was designed for our four current grader operators, along with three additional staff members as part of our ongoing succession plan.
The training will focused on several key areas, including:
- Forming, upgrading, and maintaining roads
- Mixing and spreading materials
- Scarifying and ripping
- Cutting and trimming table drains
- Trimming road sub-grades and pavements
- Site clean-up
Maintaining gravel shoulders and table drains across the council's road network is essential for ensuring driver safety, preventing premature pavement failure, and optimising long-term infrastructure costs
Untreated shoulders create safety risks, such as edge drop-offs, and accelerate degradation by allowing water to infiltrate the road base. To address this, our team will import and spread 100mm of class 3 road base, followed by grading, watering, and compacting. Finally, staff will sweep the road to ensure a safe, flush surface.
This maintenance method is significantly more cost-effective than rehabilitating damaged bitumen seal edges and extends the asset's life. It also improves efficiency on rural roads by providing the necessary width for passing and heavy vehicle traffic.
