Capital Works Program Update - July 2022

Council has an ongoing program of capital works and upgrades to buildings, parks, playgrounds, and roads across the Federation Council Region. The following activities were undertaken in July 2022 by Federation Council’s Works teams.

• Corowa – Mulwala Cycleway: Culvert installation and drainage works carried out on corner of Cotton Street & Adams Street, also Cotton Street & Hume Street South Corowa. Gravel pavement laid from corner of Cotton Street & Adams Street to corner of Cotton Street & Hume Street South Corowa.

• Slashing Corowa Aerodrome.

• Daysdale Curves: Finish batters, gravel pavement, final trim grading, spray seal, line marking, signage and guideposts. Reopen to two-way traffic under temporary 60kmh speed limit.

• School Zone Signage: Transport for NSW funded replacement of damaged and faded School Zone signage in Rand, Howlong, Corowa, South Corowa and Mulwala completed. Re-marking of “Dragons Teeth” and 40kmh symbols completed.

• Howlong Landfill: Shredding of mattresses, timber and green waste.

• Corowa Landfill: Shredding of mattresses, lounges, tyres, timber and green waste.

• Maintenance Grading Program Roads graded in July: Warmatta Road, Pine Grove Road, Hunters Road, Fords Road, Mahonga Lane, Macartneys Road, Ferguson’s Road, Humeden Road. Mahonga Road and surrounding road network. Oaklands Coreen area No tabledrain work done as drains are too wet for plant to work in.

• Gravel Re-sheeting Program Commenced: Macartneys Road, Mahonga Lane. Warmatta Road in progress.

• Wetland’s retention Basin Stormwater retention basin on the corner of Federation Avenue & River Street South Corowa: a new concrete spillway was constructed on the river side bank to prevent flooding of the caravan parks to the north of the retention basin.

• Sealed Roads: Pothole repairs on sealed urban and rural roads with the Corowa based Flocon patching truck and the Urana based Jetmaster patching truck.

• Customer Requests: Numerous Customer Requests responded to for drainage, potholes, signs and tree clearances, however some unable to be acted on due to budget constraints, fewer staff numbers or wet weather.

• Johns Street Drainage Works: commenced.

• Heavy Trucks: Corowa – Mulwala Cycleway gravel pavement laying. Daysdale Curves earthworks and gravel cartage. Cart and spread gravel for Gravel Re-sheeting Program. Cart excess spoil to Corowa & Howlong Landfills for cover & capping. Carting of aggregate for patching trucks.

• Future Works Maintenance Grading Program – Mulwala – Savernake area. Gravel re-sheeting: Warmatta Road. Maintenance Grading Program – Howlong area. Maintenance Grading Program – areas west of Corowa. Maintenance Grading Program – Boree Creek area Cullivel Road reconstruction Corowa Road heavy patching.
