What do you get when you assemble 90 school children, 15 teachers and volunteers, and then add over 500 plants? An amazing National Tree Day event!

On Thursday, 27 July, Corowa and District Landcare, together with the Federation Council and Corowa primary school students, landscaped an area along Church Street, Corowa with locally native shrubs, trees and ground covers in celebration of National Tree Day.

Federation Council launched the initiative with  the initial purpose to create a plant screen adjacent to the sewerage treatment plant and Corowa Landcare was approached and agreed to assist with the project.

Council and Landcare developed a plan to landscape the area with local plant species.

Corowa and District Landcare then coordinated the National Tree Day event, one of hundred’s occurring around Australia in July.

Corowa Public, Corowa South and St Mary’s Primary school children attended the event.

Federation Council Administrator Mike Eden said the National Tree Day event in Corowa on Thursday is a fantastic example of how Council and community groups support sustainable learning experiences for local students.

"It is a great initiative for everyone involved and it is fantastic to see local school students take such an interest in the environment,” Mr Eden said.
