Extreme Heat Tips

As we head into the warmer summer weather, Federation Council encourages residents and visitors to look after yourself, your family and pets by following these tips:

  • Stay hydrated and drink enough water.
  • Keep out of the heat, look for shade, wear a hat and try not to be outside during the hottest parts of the day (11am-4pm).
  • Encourage people to look after themselves and keep an eye out for the young, elderly, neighbours and friends.
  • Don’t forget your pets and animals, ensure they have plenty of water and shade.
  • Cool your home by closing blinds in the morning before the sun gets hot.
  • Never leave kids, adults or pets in hot cars as the temperature can increase quickly.
  • Council offices and libraries in Corowa, Howlong, Mulwala and Urana are air conditioned and provide a cooler environment. 
  • NSW Health - Beat the heat and stay well during hot weather.
  • Follow NSW Rural Fire Service for updates and information. - In an emergency ring 000.
