Whether you are new to the Federation Council area or a long-term resident keen to know more about what local community groups and organisations have on offer, everyone is invited to the Federation Community Expo on Thursday 19 October, from 5:30 pm at Bangerang Park in Corowa.

This is a free community event to showcase the organisations, clubs, groups, and service providers in the Federation Council area. It will include displays and interactive activities, food, giveaways and live music throughout the afternoon.

Federation Council Mayor, Cr Pat Bourke is urging residents to get behind this event, “The program looks great, with over 60 local community groups and organisations all in one location. The expo has something for everyone and I encourage residents to join in and find out what your community has to offer,” he said.

Who will be there?

Corowa High School hospitality students will be whipping up some afternoon tea. The Rotary Club of Corowa who will be firing up the BBQ along side the Corowa Girl Guides will have drinks for sale.

Talented and local music groups, the Rivereens and Sing Australia will be pumping out some songs to keep everyone entertained.

Attendees can expect to see and hear from over sixty local groups. These community groups and service providers who are keen to touch base with the community about their many services, programs and events, what they have to offer with some hands-on and come and try activities to join in.

 

Aged Care Providers and Services 

  • Find out about the many aged care services and programs available to you and your older family members through organisations such as Australian Unity, Southern Cross Care, and Intereach.

 

Arts, History and Cultural Groups

  • Watch the art and craft demonstration by the Corowa Creatives and Gallery 294. 
  • Find out what the Upper Murray Quirky Events, and the Corowa & District Historical Society have to offer.

 

Community groups

  • Have a look at what the Corowa & District She Shed, Wahgunyah Men’s Shed and Corowa Community Mens Shed has been up to.
  • Have a chat with the Red Cross, while making a seed ball with the Corowa & District Landcare.
  • See what is in season with the Corowa Tree of Life Community Garden.
  • Looking for some fun and social interaction? Visit the Merry Murray Madams Red Hat Chapter.

 

Disability Providers and Services  

  • Talk to the people who are committed to assisting people with disability including Supported Plus, Intereach, Plan and Connect, and The Personnel Group.

 

Educational and employment providers 

  • Check out educational opportunities while having fun available through St Mary’s Catholic School and Tafe NSW. 
  • Taste what it is like to be a student at Corowa High School.
  • Looking for work, visit Sureways and see how they can help.

 

Emergency Services

  • Let the kids check out the firetruck, while you find out from the Rural Fire Service stall and the Rutherglen SES about staying safe in your home. 

 

Family, Youth and Children 

  • Join in some family fun with youth, children and family programs including the Corowa and Howlong Playgroup.
  • Looking for an Occupational Therapist or Speech Pathologist? Visit Early Day’s Therapies and Upper Murray Family Care.
  • Blow some bubbles and try some arts and crafts with Intereach and Centrecare, while finding out about their counselling, family support/ parenting programs, and NDIS services.
  • Find out about story time at the Federation Council Libraries. 
  • Speak with the Girl Guides and find how guides lets girls experience a great variety of activities.

 

Fitness

  • Looking to learn about improving your fitness? Pop over and have a chat with Back on Track Physio.
  • Find out how to stay active and healthy as you age with Murrumbidgee Local Health District Aqua Fitness or Gentle Exercise.

 

Health and Wellbeing 

  • Grab a giveaway and find out about the Federation Primary Prevention Team (Drugs and Alcohol).
  • Stop by and see Phoenix Wings Wellness and see what art therapy is all about.
  • Find out how the Murrumbidgee Local Health District's Counsellor and Farm Community Counsellor can help people.
  • Learn when One Door Mental Health Carer Support Group catches up and how you can join. 
  • Speak to Albury Community Health about their health services for woman.
  • Look at the Masterplan for the Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital.

 

Legal and Advocacy Services

  • Experiencing domestic or family violence? Speak with the Womens Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service.
  • Need help with the NDIS or advocacy as a person or carer of a person with disability? Speak with the Regional Disability Advocacy Service.

  • Uncover your passion with a special interest group such as the Corowa Business Chamber or the Urana Progress Association.
