Perfect weather conditions greeted the many smiling faces at Howlong Preschool’s Official Opening on Sunday 15 September.  The official opening provided an exciting atmosphere with a jumping castle, face painting and a barbeque.

The upgrade of the Preschool building and surrounding landscapes was made possible by a $200,000 contribution from the Start Strong Capital Works Grants Program Funded through the NSW Department of Education, a $100,000 contribution from Federation Council and an astonishing $165,000 contribution from the Pre-school itself via amazing fundraising efforts. The total project value was $465,000.

Mayor Pat Bourke said, “Council was proud to celebrate the Howlong Preschool opening with the Howlong community, and hoped that Howlong’s youngest residents would enjoy the new space for many years to come.”

“The preschool has been proudly serving the Howlong community and surrounds since 1975, as a community owned Not-For Profit service. The expansion of the preschool now provides a state of the art, two room facility licensed for 40 preschool places, for children aged to 3 -5 years.”

“This is such an exciting time for the community of Howlong, especially Preschool aged children and their families.  As a result of various funding partners, and the hard work of the Howlong Preschool Association over many years, they will now enjoy the benefits of this revitalised and extended facility.”

“It was wonderful to have the attendance of our Federal Member for Farrer, Ms Susan Ley, along with State Member for Albury, Justin Clancy, along with some of  my fellow Crs, Deputy Mayor Cr Shaun Whitechurch and Cr David Longley.  It was also great to have our General Manager Adrian Butler, along with with several other Council staff members.”

“On behalf of Federation Council, I would like to congratulate the Howlong Preschool Association on this project, and also thank the funding partners immensely.  I would also congratulate the contractors involved, and the Project Management team in Council for managing this project.  I look forward to it providing fantastic education opportunities for our young residents for many years to come,” he said.
