The much anticipated works at Howlong Preschool have commenced which will see the complete revitalization of the preschool building and grounds.
Council staff, Councillors Longley and Kennedy and contractors met on site recently to view the plans and witness the first renovation works at the Howlong Preschool begin.
Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke said that Council was pleased to support the Howlong Preschool by contributing $100,000 to the project.
“It is such an exciting time for the community of Howlong who as a result of various funding partners and the hard work of the Howlong Preschool over many years will soon enjoy the benefits of a brand new preschool building and school grounds,” he said.
Howlong Preschool Director Olivia-Rose Pepper said this project began in 2012 and there was so many people to thank for assisting them to get them to where they are today.
“I am so proud of what we are about to achieve thanks to the commitment of the preschool and wider community, Federation Council and the NSW Department of Education,” Ms Pepper said.
“The total project is valued at $465,000, and the Howlong Preschool Contribution is an astonishing $165,000. The majority of this money has been raised through our own internal fundraising, and there have been numerous contributors to this: parents, community and wider community for either buying and or selling raffle tickets, cooking at barbeques and many other fundraising events, local businesses and also surrounding districts supporting our annual trivia nights/auction through donations of goods, people who have donated their time to organise events, the current committee and all previous committees right back to 2012. The staff of our preschool have also been amazing throughout this process, sponsorship's of events, in kind donations. However there have also been significant financial donations to our preschool for this project by the Howlong Lions Club and also the Howlong Op Shop and without their support this would not have eventuated.”
Ms Pepper also wished to highlight the $100,000 contribution from Federation Council and the $200,000 contribution from the Start Strong Capital Works Grants Program Funded through the NSW Department of Education.
“We also have to thank Federation Council for their support in helping us find a temporary location whilst we have our preschool renovation,” she said.
“Along with that we also would like to sincerely thank the various community groups who were kind enough to relocate from the community centre for us to operate from there. We are so excited that this renovation is coming to fruition and the support has been overwhelming.”
