Today Federation Council officially opened the Mulwala Industrial Estate development upgrade which has allowed for the expansion of existing estate known as Mulwala Business Park, located alongside Tocumwal Road in Mulwala.

The location of the Business Park provides easy and accessible transport links to major cities and regional centres along with offering extensive freight and transport services that offer fast and cost effective distribution options. The upgrade has been made possible by funding from the National Stronger Regions Fund of $655,676 and $3.6M committed by Federation Council.

Mayor Cr Pat Bourke and Federal Member for Farrer Ms Sussan Ley officially opened the upgrade.

Mayor Cr Pat Bourke said, “Council is proud to provide 60 high quality blocks with power, sewer and telco services available with land area ranging from 1182m2 to 7761m2.”

“Federation Council fosters business development and expansion and makes good business sense. With a vibrant economy, excellent transport linkages and accessibility, strong opportunities for growth and exceptional lifestyle, there are endless reasons to consider doing business in this region.”

“The Mulwala Commercial precinct and Business Park are growing and thriving areas and both have seen many new Businesses establish, and others expanding. The Mulwala Business Park is currently home to an array of businesses including Yarrawonga Manufactured Housing, Building Companies, Steel Fabrications, Crematorium, Storage Shed, Large and Small Truck Depots/transport companies and Cleaning Companies which we hope will grow and expand in the coming years,” he said.

Federal Member for Farrer Ms Sussan Ley said, “In addition to attracting additional businesses to the region, this investment will produce longer-term economic benefits and diversification of the local economy.

By supporting 12 jobs during construction using local businesses and supplies, and creating an estimated 100 ongoing jobs, I am confident this project can help bring economic prosperity to Mulwala for many years to come,” she said.

Mayor Cr Pat Bourke said, “Council has also been active with other development in Mulwala across the years, and the latest examples include major upgrades and renewals to the fantastic Lonsdale Recreation Reserve, new Boat ramp and retaining walls at the Owen Bridges Reserve, new jetty at Digger Loughnan Park, renewals to section of Melbourne Street, and Wemyss Road to the Max Kirwan Ski Park, in readiness for the 2020 World Show Ski titles. Pool avenue alongside Apex Park and the carpark area was also renewed several years ago.”

“Federation Council’s business footprint includes small to medium sized enterprises ranging from tourism and hospitality to manufacturing and agriculture. Traditionally farming provides the main source of employment in the region, although this has evolved with the diversification of the economic base to include tourism and various other rural industries.”

“It was wonderful to have the attendance of our Federal Member for Farrer Ms Sussan Ley, along with some of my fellow Councillors, Cr Norm Wales and Cr Andrew Kennedy.  It was also great to have at the opening John & Nathan Tresize from Yarrawonga Manufactured Housing, Brendan & Bill Longley from Longford Civil and Council’s General Manager Adrian Butler, along with several other staff members.”

“On behalf of Federation Council, I would like to thank the generous funding partners, contractors Longford Civil and the Project Management team at Council for managing this project. This has been an amazing community initiative and I look forward to welcoming many new small and large business into the future,” he said.
