Works on the Corowa to Mulwala trail continue to make great progress, despite the challenges of consistent wet weather.
Federation Council is undertaking the Corowa to Mulwala Trail (CMT) and Foreshore Precincts project, which features the construction of a shared use trail linking the townships of Corowa and Mulwala. The combined projects provide an opportunity to encourage exploration along the Murray River and integrate towns and villages across the three LGAs, creating a strengthened interface with the Murray River.
The Corowa to Mulwala Trail is part of the Murray River Regional Experiences project which is a joint initiative of Albury City, Berrigan Shire and Federation Councils. The project aims to strengthen access to and connection with the Murray River for both residents and visitors. The councils are tasked with projects to improve infrastructure along 60 km of river frontage.
Federation Council Mayor, Cr Pat Bourke said the trail development supports the objectives of the Corowa Mulwala Trail and Precincts Project Plan (May 2018), by growing and promoting opportunities for physical activity, building awareness and appreciation of the region’s natural resources, and improving tourism opportunities.
“There are also opportunities to showcase the Indigenous connection to the region, involving Traditional Owners in the design and content of interpretive material,” he said.
“Works continue to progress on the trail, with approximately 16,000 ton of gravel being delivered recently to two stock piles along the proposed route. 10km of the trail has already been completed and is now ready for seal.”
Council has entered into a contract with Gradian Projects Pty Ltd to design and construct a 200m long boardwalk approximately 15km east of Mulwala, which is projected to be a major feature of the trail.
It is hoped that the trail will be open for cyclists and other multi-users in early 2022.
