2022 Federation Villages Plan

Federation Council has prepared a Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan for the Federation Villages (townships) of Boree Creek, Morundah, Oaklands, Rand and Urana.

The March 2022 Federation Villages Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan report and township specific report appendices can be downloaded using the document links at the base of this page.

The Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan report details a strategy for reducing the flood risks and consequences at the five villages.  Council is progressively implementing this strategy which includes:

  • Permanent levee at Urana.  The detailed design of the levee was completed in late 2025.  Council is now seeking funding assistance to allow for construction of the levee.
  • Flood mitigation works at Morundah.  The detailed design of local runoff flood mitigation works at Morundah was completed in late 2025.  Funding to allow for construction of these works is now being sought.
  • Improving flood warning system arrangements.  Council will commence a project in 2026 using a secured NSW Government grant to design improved flood warning services at Boree Creek, Morundah, Rand and Urana.
  • New flood based planning and development controls.  New flood based controls will come into effect when Council updates the current Local Environmental Plan.
