2024 NSW Youth Week will take place from 11 to 21 April 2024. The week-long celebration is organised by young people, for young people, in communities across the state. Federation Council is hosting several activities across the region to celebrate the occasion.

 

Street Art Workshop To Offer Youth a Platform for Self-Expression

Council is partnering with Upper Murray Quirky Events to deliver a fun workshop where participants will learn skills from pro graffiti artist Waive One. Covering stencil art and aerosol techniques, the workshop will take place on Sunday the 24th of March at the Corowa Showgrounds.

The free workshop is suitable for ages 14-24. All art materials and safety equipment are included in the workshop. Participants will walk away with a unique street art inspired piece and finish the day off with a free sausage sizzle lunch.

Finished artworks will form part of the youth-focused Express! Exhibition which will be on display at Corowa Art Space in April.

Federation Youth Event Assistant Program To Offer Unique Career Development Opportunity

Federation Council are partnering with Murray Arts on the Federation Youth Event Assistant Program to deliver a career development opportunity for youth aged 16 to 24 living in the Federation LGA. Participants of the program will work with Murray Arts in the lead up to the LIMELIGHT 3.0 Festival which will be held during NSW Youth Week in Corowa’s Bangerang Park precinct on the 18th of April.

Participants of the program will get hands-on experience with the peak arts body of our region and be on the ground to assist with event support at LIMELIGHT 3.0, the third iteration of the much-loved event. This one-night only extravaganza of animated projections, sculptures, storytelling and interactive art will entice, delight and expand the imaginations of visitors. 

The Program will provide an introduction to the Creative Industries GIG Economy, events industry experience, small business skills training in invoicing and a reference for future employment opportunities. Event Crew meals and Crew T-Shirt are also included. The Program’s aims are to increase youth involvement in their local community and assist in their future social and economic participation. Participants of the program will receive remuneration of $180.

Young Artists Invited to Participate In Community Exhibition for NSW Youth Week

Express Youth Exhibition NSW Youth Week 2024

Artists aged 24 and under from across the region are invited to let their creativity shine and submit work to an upcoming community exhibition being held at the Corowa Art Space in 2024.

The exhibition will be on display from 5th April – 28th April 2024 and will run to coincide with NSW Youth Week, a week-long celebration organised by young people, for young people, in communities across the state. Federation Council will also be holding several youth events to mark the occasion.  

Whatever your preferred medium or style may be, whether it’s manga, skateboard art, sketches, street art, abstract, pop art, portraiture or collage, we are encouraging young artists to unleash their imagination and express themselves. This is a great opportunity for any emerging artists looking to exhibit their work for the first time.

Grab a bag of popcorn, and a slurpy, settle back in your bean bag as the Federation Youth Council hosts an outdoor movie night on Thursday 11 April at sundown the Oaklands Recreation Ground. 

Federation Youth Mayor, Ella Webb said, the Federation Youth Council are excited to do their first official project as part of the 2024 NSW Youth Week, 

“We are excited to be able to run our first event and we hope everyone enjoys the movie “Instant Family”. We are encouraging everyone to bring your friends, your comfiest outfit, and snuggly blanket for a fun-filled night at the Oaklands Outdoor Cinema.”

Instant Family is a family friendly comedy drama about a couple decides to start a family by adopting three children through foster care. But chaos strikes as they stumble through caring for a traumatised teenager and her two young siblings.

Youth Deputy Mayor, and Oaklands resident, Dayna Carter is looking forward to the night, “It is wonderful to be able to host an event in Oaklands that aims to boost the youth community and provide entertainment.” 

“The Oaklands Football Netball Club will be hosting a canteen on the night with all the favourite movie snacks. People are also welcome to bring their own food,” Dayna said. 

Bookings are not required, but primary school students must be accompanied by an adult. 

Oaklands Outdoor Cinema is a free event as a part of the 2024 Youth Week Celebrations and supported by the NSW Government through the NSW Youth Week Program.

 

Trick out Your Tumbler Workshops

Youth aged 12 - 24 are invited to chill out and get creative at fun and free creative workshops. These workshops are part of a variety of youth programs hosted by Federation Council to celebrate 2024 NSW Youth Week.

The Trick Out Your Tumbler Workshops will let participants play with a technique popular in street art and car modification communities called ‘sticker-bombing’, which is a way to cover an original surface with as many stickers as possible to create a new customised look. 

A free assorted jumbo drink tumbler and a huge variety of stickers are included in the workshop, so participants can decorate to their heart’s content. Participants are able to bring in their own items from home as well to sticker-bomb such as skateboards, helmets, electronic devices or drink bottles. A light lunch is also included.

The first workshop at the Rand Recreation Ground will be held on Monday the 15th of April from 12pm to 2.30pm and the second workshop at the Mulwala Library will be held on Wednesday the 17th of April from 12pm to 2.30pm.

There are limited spots available at each workshop. Bookings are essential for the Rand and Mulwala Workshops.
