Two exciting projects are set to get underway in Corowa, with the development of unique play spaces at Bangerang Park and RSL Park. The new playgrounds are part of a series of initiatives  across the council area, focussed on improving  access to recreational facilities for local families and visitors.

Draft concept plans have now been made available for the wider community to view and provide their feedback on.

New equipment will be installed at RSL Park, replacing some of the existing pieces that are no longer meeting safety standards. The playground will cater for a broad age group, with a flying fox expected to be a popular addition.

Feature rocks and plantings will be integrated into the design and will add an another dimension to the play space. The plan also proposes to improve the connection between the playground and the railway station, providing better access and increasing utilisation.

The Corowa RSL Club have maintained the RSL gardens for many years as a valuable community service and in addition to this, have confirmed a generous financial contribution towards the new RSL park playground.

Bangerang Park will also undergo significant improvements, including replacement of the equipment that was removed due to flood damage and safety concerns last year. The design features custom pieces of equipment and natural play elements, using locally sourced timber and stone to ensure the space compliments the natural environment.

The proposed plans seek to beautify the Apex train station and incorporate this into the space as a key attraction. The existing toilet block will be removed and replaced with a new toilet block that includes disabled access and baby change facilities.

Federation Council is pleased to be working in partnership with Rivalea Australia, who have confirmed their contribution of $50,000 towards the Bangerang Park playground.

Director of Corporate & Community Services Kristy Kay recognised the valuable support of both Rivalea and the Corowa RSL at this months council meeting.

'We are very grateful to these businesses for their continued support of important community projects like these.' she said.

'These are very exciting projects and we are looking forward to working with the community as they progress.' said Ms Kay.

Federation Council Administrator, Mike Eden said Council was pleased to be working towards the delivery of key community projects.

'These projects have been priorities for the community for some time and have been a long standing action within Council's Delivery Program.' he said.

The concept plans for each site are being circulated widely throughout the community and a survey is available to capture feedback.

'It's important that we understand the communities ideas and views about playground provision and we are hopeful that people will take the time to complete the survey that is now open.' said Mr Eden.

Council will also be working with local schools and preschools to ensure the towns younger residents have an opportunity to have their say about the proposed plans.

Residents are being encouraged to view the concept plans and complete the online survey by Monday 10 April. Hard copies of the survey are also available at the Corowa Civic Centre and Library.

It is expected that both projects will be completed by Christmas this year.
